Whitney Houston…

Today as I sit here watching CNN and their coverage of Whitney Houston’s funeral service,  I am touched by the way she has touched our nation with her awesome singing.  She was a

woman who was physically and sexually abused, and started singing in church.

She had a husband whom abused her severely, and was instrumental in getting her on drugs and abuse of alcohol.

Through it all, she has brought much joy to many through the talents God gave to her.  Unfortunately, she is not a good mentor or example for our teens and children.

Through all this hoopla which I have seen, I wonder why we do not give our fallen solders the same honors?  We do not lower flags for those whom have given the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country.

As a funeral director and minister, I find it amazing how people become canonized as wonderful Christians when they leave this life.  I have actually been in services when  I wanted to say “are we at the wrong service?”

Each minister tries to make the person an angel when they have hurt their families through physical abuse, sexual infidelity, drug/alcohol abuse, being absent from their families (today this is both moms and dads!).

Do they not realize families know the truth about the person?  Why do we as ministers try to make the family feel they had the ‘best’?

(Well, I must say except for a couple of services at which the minister started talking about all the wives the men had, ‘they were no saint’, and alcoholic!  That is just as hurtful for the families.)

I see posts saying “she is singing with the angels in heaven”; ‘an awesome example for America’; and many others making her an icon for our youth.

My Bible says “Jesus said to them, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father but by me.”  John 14:9John 14:9
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

“Truly, truly , I tell you, He that enters another way but by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is as a thief and a robber.”  John 10:1John 10:1

10 1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

“Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die.  Believest you this?”

I know she ‘started’ in church, but how did she live the rest of her life?  Did she live it for God or fame?  She was an awesome entertainer but was she a worshiper?  The world knew her, but did she know the Savior of the world?

Yes, I get concerned about people’s salvation when they pass from this life.  She is a good example of no one having no promise of a tomorrow.  I pray she did know Christ as I want no one to experience the terrible eternity of hell.

Today, we don’t need to pray for her, we need to pray for her family.  They need to know Christ if they do not, before it is too late.

Celebrities are only human as the rest of us.  As I like to say, “they put their pants on one leg at a time like us all!”  I do feel it is very difficult for them to stay close to God because of their fame in this world.

We must pray for their salvation and worship God instead of worshiping man.  How dull would this world be without the celebrity, or famous….  Or what did they do before radio and television?

They must have spent more time in the Word, prayer, and seeking God’s face.
