Removing sin is like pulling a tooth

Yesterday I had a tooth removed and the Lord showed me something. When we begin to rid ourselves of sin, sometimes it is very painful, there’s bleeding and we need ‘medicine’ or help.

Jeremiah 17: 5-6Jeremiah 17: 5-6
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

says “This saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord (vs 6) For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good comes; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.’

The heath is a desert plant with deep roots which search below the desert floor (under the sand) for nutrients. As they were pulling, digging, yanking, and tugging on my tooth, I realized ridding our lives of sin can be as painful.  My tooth’s roots had turned 45 degrees under the jaw bone!  OUCH!

Sin buries itself in our lives and hearts discreetly.  We do not realize just how deep they have embedded themselves. It takes pulling, tugging, and cutting to get it out.  OUCH!

The heath is much like the Elm trees of Texas. Their deep roots destroy everything in the pathway. An Elm tree’s roots take up sidewalks, ruin water and sewer lines and cause all kinds of problems. All the while, they are hidden deep in the ground while at the same time,  high up above, providing awesome, beautiful shade.

Sin destroys us step by step. Satan has established sin to take us step by step; further than we ever thought we’d go, keep us there longer than we wanted to be there, and cost us more than we wanted to spend.

It is only through Christ’s blood covering our sins and setting us free that we are able to totally be free from sin.

Like the tooth, sin gets hold of us and digs down deep into our soul. When Christ sets us free, our mind and the devil keeps telling us ‘You need to do’…whatever. Then the pains of addiction to sin begins to hurt and come against us.  Sin hangs on in our mind and tries to stay embedded into our lives.

We must set sin and the devil straight about Who really owns this life. It is Jesus Christ. We are not our own, but His to do His will and not conform to the pain, addictions, and trials of this world.

I love Jeremiah 17:8Jeremiah 17:8
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. drought: or, restraint

‘For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and SHALL NOT SEE when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green, and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall CEASE FROM YIELDING FRUIT).

As Christians we must become like this tree. This is a good tree to have. It puts it’s roots into the river and gains nourishment to maintain in the times of drought.

When we ground ourselves and set our ‘roots’ into the Holy Spirit, then we are able to keep trusting God in all our trials. When the devil puts the heat on us, we just keep on going through the trials like we under the air-conditioner. We’re cool and collected because we KNOW WHO IS IN CONTROL; and it is not us. We have placed all trust and confidence in Christ Jesus.  We shall NOT BE MOVED!

Yes, sin hurts when it comes out because of the addictive power Satan puts into it. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to fight, battle and defeat the wiles of Satan.

Phil 4:13Phil 4:13
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

says “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ which strengthens me.”
That means we can combat all things and be victorious in life.

Today, set your ‘roots’ in Christ and let Him have the pain and suffering for all your sins and be victorious!  The less you hold to sin, the less it will hurt to have it removed.
